For evenly distributing points over a fixed total length when the last point must land on the end.
- Total length
- Distance between the first and final marks.
- Target spacing
- Used as a maximum interval for selecting a whole number of intervals.
The app rounds interval count up, then redistributes the full length equally. It includes both zero and the end in the mark list.
- Actual spacing and cumulative positions measured from the start.
A length that does not divide exactly by the requested spacing.
| Quantity | Value |
|---|---|
| Total length; target | 2500 mm; 600 mm |
| Intervals; actual spacing | 5; 500 mm |
| All marks | 0; 500; 1000; 1500; 2000; 2500 mm |
Intervals = ceil(2500/600) = 5. Actual spacing = 2500/5. Six marks bound five intervals.
Use metric or imperial lengths consistently and keep extra precision until the final display. Rounded diagram labels are not a measuring tolerance.
Marks have no width in this model. It does not subtract post widths or leave equal clear end gaps; use Baluster Spacing for those conditions.
Why is the actual step smaller?
The tool fits a whole number of equal intervals into the total while keeping them no greater than the target.
What if the step must stay exact?
Use Layout Marks to repeat a fixed step from a starting offset; it does not adjust to an endpoint.
