The dashed line spans the full horizontal roof width between the eaves. Measure plan length along the eaves, separately from the sloping surface; use the length unit selected in the app.Illustration; not to scale.
Estimate sloping area and the equivalent number of sheets by area. Confirm whole sheets, laps and layout with the supplier. For an initial material estimate on a simple roof with one pitch. With a symmetrical gable roof, use the full horizontal width to represent both slopes together.
Estimate sloping roof area and bundle equivalents from the coverage stated for your chosen shingles. For an initial material estimate on a simple roof with one pitch. With a symmetrical gable roof, use the full horizontal width to represent both slopes together.
Choose how the material is sold
Metal Roofing divides roof area by a sheet area. Roof Shingles divides it by the coverage of a bundle. Both use a single pitch angle and a selected allowance. Neither replaces a detailed laying plan.
Plan dimensions are horizontal
Measure the horizontal footprint being covered, including any eaves you intend to include. Do not enter the sloping rafter length as the plan width and then apply pitch again. Roofs with different pitches need separate calculations.
